Turbo10 uncovers more specialist information on the Net - 17/04/2002.
Turbo10 Search Engine (http://turbo10.com) now uncovers more specialist information
on the Net with the launch of two new search engine collections in the fields of
Health and Finance, the company announced today.
Turbo10 is a metasearch engine that connects to specialist niche search engines and
databases that traditional engines overlook. Turbo10 enables Internet users to search
up to 10 engines at once. These engines are grouped into topic-specific collections:
News, Reference, Legal, Sports, and now Health and Finance.
Nigel Hamilton, Turbo10's Co-founder and Managing Director, said,
"Turbo10 can access information that other engines cant. By grouping together
specialist engines we are providing a broader and more accurate search for our users.
Searchers can choose a Turbo10 Collection by selecting it from the drop-down menu
next to the search box. Each Turbo10 Collection can query up to 10 databases in the
same topic area, retrieves the results, ranks and displays them in a consistent interface.
For example, Turbo10s Health/Medical Collection connects searchers directly
to speciality health and medical databases such as IntelliHealth and HealthCentral
that contain comprehensive information on health issues and medical products.
Searchers looking for information on influenza can use the Health/Medical
Collection to uncover specialist medical information and expert advice from online
databases that traditional search engines are unable to access.
Our unique technology allows us to retrieve results directly from speciality
sites that other search engines cant access. By uncovering these information
goldmines we are broadening the depth and range of search results for the online
searcher, Nigel Hamilton a former Computer Science lecturer said.
Turbo10 is the first search engine to bridge the gap between the surface web and
the Deep Net. Crawler-based search engines like AltaVista and Google only search
static web pages - the surface web. But the surface web only represents a small proportion
of the information available on the Net. A plethora of high quality information is
found in dynamic pages that are inaccessible to crawler-based search engines.
The inability to access valuable data has created a major information gap for Internet
searchers using traditional engines, and the deficit has spawned a number of new
industry terms such as invisible web and Deep Net.
The Deep Net consists of a vast array of specialist databases that range from business
associations, universities, libraries, and government departments.
By deploying search engine adapter technology, called the Turbo10 Trawler, Turbo10
is able to dynamically connect to hundreds of Deep Net databases in all categories
and languages.
Turbo10 allows owners of searchable databases to add their Deep Net engines to the
Turbo10 by an online submission form - 'Add Search Engine.'

About Turbo10.com
Turbo10 Search Engine is operated by Fleetfoot Internet Solutions Limited, a privately
owned company specialising in search engine technology. Fleetfoot Internet Solutions
is based in London, United Kingdom.
In addition to connecting to the Deep Net - Turbo10 makes browsing faster with its
Search-o-meter and Turbo10 Topics.
- The Turbo10 Search-o-Meter enables a searcher to quickly flick through the
results without the need to scroll down.
- Turbo10 Topics is a new search engine clustering technique that helps you
'home in' quickly on a relevant topic. For example, if you search on 'salsa', Turbo10's
algorithm identifies 'dancing' and 'recipes' as two distinct topics.
